Value Engineering Savings:

6 months Earlier Delivery of Phases 1 and 2; £4m cost-saving and 18 months time saving to Ground Improvement Works on Phases 6 and 7.

Project Features:

This Project is divided into seven phases. There was an earthworks/remediation contract and an infrastructure contract for each phase. Furthermore, we completed a ground improvement contract which covered two phases (6 & 7) and the construction of a 2 hectare lake both of which have been executed. We have completed 1 Infrastructure contract and 4 Remediation contracts. Our works commenced in October 2000 and the aggregate turnover to date is approximately £13m.

As follows a list of project specific features dealt with during the Construction Phase:

• Earthworks / Remediation Works / Ground Improvement Works carried out adjacent to an established housing estate. Thus, dust suppression and liaison (with residents and LA Environmental Health Officer) were critical activities.
• New Technology Employed: High Energy Impact Compaction successfully employed in Ground Improvement Works to Phases 6 and 7.

Informal Partnering approach adopted with Client Persimmon Homes South Coast. Collaboration effect with all interested and effected parties: Local residents, Gosport Borough Council Highways Dept., Gosport Borough Council Building Control, Gosport Borough Council Environmental Health, Weeks Consulting, ENSR, and RMC.
